Domestic Abuse Center Inc. accused of not paying overtime wages to former employee

Law money 12

MIAMI – A former domestic violence and sexual assault victim advocate alleges she was not paid overtime wages by her former employer.

Cynthia Hardin filed a complaint on May 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Domestic Abuse Center Inc. and Venita Garvin alleging that they violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has suffered damages for not receiving overtime wages during her employment with the defendants from July 2013 to March. The plaintiff holds Domestic Abuse Center Inc. and Garvin responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to pay her at a rate of one-and-one-half of her regular rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours per workweek.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for all unpaid wages, liquidated damages, attorney's fees and costs. She is represented by Todd W. Shulby of Todd W. Shulby PA in Weston.
