Man alleges Sawgrass Lanes does not have accessible restrooms

Handicapped sign 02

MIAMI – A disabled individual alleges that a Tamarac business has discriminated against him by denying access to and full and equal enjoyment of goods and services offered at the property.

Luis Sierra filed a complaint on April 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against HZ Tamarac LLC, doing business as Sawgrass Lanes, citing alleged failure to uphold Americans with Disabilities Act regulations

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 13, he visited the defendant’s facility and encountered barriers to access the facility. He alleges he was denied safe full and equal access and full and equal enjoyment of the facilities, services, goods and accommodations within the facility. The plaintiff holds HZ Tamarac LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to remove barriers to access to the restrooms for disabled persons, failed to provide restrooms that are accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities and failed to provide proper signage for an accessible restroom.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks declaration that the defendant's facility is in violation of the ADA, an order requiring defendant to alter its facilities to make it accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities, an order directing the defendant to evaluate its policies and procedures toward persons with disabilities, attorneys' fees, costs and expenses and such other and further relief as it may deem necessary, just and proper. He is represented by Mark D. Cohen and Jaci R. Mattocks of J & M Advocacy Group LLC in Hollywood.
