MIAMI – A-Cuban American woman and Broward County resident claims she was subject to discrimination and retaliation while an employee for a city.

Georgina Cid filed a complaint on April 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against the city of Miramar alleging that the municipal corporation discriminated against her due to ethnicity.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 13, 2015, she was demoted from her position of executive administrative assistant and replaced by an African-American female who did not have a bachelor’s degree, a requirement for the position. Following her demotion, she alleges the defendant's chief operations officer began to harass and demean her. The suit states she was fired on Sept. 30, 2015. The plaintiff holds city of Miramar responsible because the defendant allegedly deprived her of equal employment opportunities and retaliated against her for taking her complaints to human resources about her treatment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks permanent injunction enjoining defendant from engaging in any employment discrimination practices, compensation for back pay, plus interest, pecuniary damages, attorney’s fees and costs and such other relief as the court may deem necessary and appropriate. She is represented by Ansana D. Singh of Law Office of Ansana D. Singh PA in Miami.
