OCALA – A Marion County woman is suing a debt collection agency after it allegedly failed to report that a purported debt was disputed.
Angela Kilburne, also known as Angela Kopko, filed a complaint on April 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Ocala Division against Credit Protection Association LP alleging that the debt collector violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendant listed a purported debt on her credit report that she disputed by letter in December 2015. The plaintiff holds Credit Protection Association LP responsible because the defendant allegedly re-reported the alleged debt to her credit account and failed to report the amount as "disputed by costumer."
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for actual and statutory damages, attorney's fees and costs and for such other relief as the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Michael J. Ringelheim of RC Law Group PLLC in Hackensack, New Jersey.
