Unum Life Insurance alleged to have wrongfully denied benefits

Insurance 05

TAMPA – A woman alleges she was wrongfully denied disability benefits.

Joyce Wilson filed a complaint on April 7 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America alleging that the claims administrator violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that from May 5, 2015, through the date of the filing of this complaint, she was not approved for benefits under the long-term disability plan policy. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America responsible because the defendant allegedly failed and refused to pay her long-term disability benefits at a rate of $1,842 per month because it claims she is not disabled under the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for unpaid benefits, prejudgment interest, attorneys' fees and costs and for such other relief as the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Donald C. Anderson of Law Offices of Donald Carl Anderson in St. Petersburg.
