Cellist accuses former employer of age discrimination

ORLANDO – A musician is suing her former employer over allegations she was wrongfully terminated because of her age.

Shona McFadyen-Mungall filed a complaint on April 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division against Saint Andrew's Chapel Inc., and Saint Andrew's Chapel Real Estate Holdings Inc. alleging that they violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has incurred financial damages, suffered emotional distress, mental anguish, humiliation, embarrassment, damage to her reputation and loss of enjoyment of life. The plaintiff holds Saint Andrew's Chapel Inc., and Saint Andrew's Chapel Real Estate Holdings Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly discharged her based on her age, which was 60 at the time of her termination, and replaced her with a younger man who recently graduated from a school affiliated with the defendants and who had vowed to become a member of their church.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order for her reinstatement, compensation for damages in the form of back pay and lost benefits, liquidated and punitive damages, attorneys' fees and costs and any additional relief as the court may deem just and equitable.
