MIAMI – A San Francisco games broadcaster is suing a Coral Gables sports bar alleging that it allegedly intercepted satellite cable programming without paying a fee.
Premium Sports Inc. filed a complaint on Feb. 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Harald Neuweg and Satchmo Blues Bar and Grill Inc., doing business as Fritz & Franz Bierhaus, citing violations of the Federal Communications Act and the U.S. Copyright Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 24, 2015, it suffered damages in an amount to be decided by the court. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly used a device to intercept plaintiff’s signal of the 2015 IRB Rugby World Cup, then re-transmitted it via satellite or microwave signal to broadcast it in its commercial establishment without paying the appropriate licensing fee.
The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for statutory damages, attorney’s fees and costs and any further relief that the court may deem just and proper. The plaintiff is represented by Alan D. Danz of Danz & Kronengold PL in Cooper City.
