Cruise passenger sues vessel owner, spa operator over alleged negligence

Cruise

MIAMI – A cruise passenger is suing the vessel owner and spa operator over claims he was injured during a hot stone massage.

Thomas Taylor filed a complaint on Feb. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division against Celebrity Cruises Inc. and Canyon Ranch Spa, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 17, 2015, he suffered second-degree burns to his back when he received a hot stone massage aboard the Reflection. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to adequately train and monitor the actions of the spa attendant, failed to monitor the temperature of the rocks to ascertain they are not harmful and failed to employ knowledgeable and experienced spa treatment providers.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for all damages recoverable under the law. He is represented by Ricardo V. Alsina of Lipcon, Margulies, Alsina & Winkleman PA in Miami.
