FORT LAUDERDALE – A Pompano Beach electrical contractor is suing a surety company for payment for work performed.

21st Century Electrical Contractors Inc. filed a complaint Feb. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Division against American Contractors Indemnity Co. alleging that the surety company failed to pay the balance due.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was contracted to do work on a Miami LA Fitness building in 2014 and was not paid for the work it performed. In September 2015, the suit states that 21st Century filed a claim of lien for nonpayment and that the lien was transferred from the project's owner and general contractor to the defendant. The plaintiff alleges it is still owed $88,989.44.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for damages of more than $75,000, attorneys' fees and costs and any further relief that the court may deem just and proper. It is represented by William R. Clayton of Greenberg Traurig PA in Fort Lauderdale.
