Gainesville resident sues over alleged illegal phone calls

Cellphone

GAINESVILLE — A Gainesville resident is suing a collection company, alleging that it auto-dialed her cellular phone in a manner that amounted to invasion of privacy and violation of telephone harassment statutes.

Anastasia Overton sued Navient Solutions Inc. on Feb. 11 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida Gainesville Division, alleging that the financial institution willfully violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she is being charged for incoming calls, and that she took the necessary steps to demand that Navient Solutions cease using an automatic telephone dialing system to call her phone.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for statutory damages, treble damages, reasonable attorneys’ fees and any other relief that the court may deem appropriate. She is represented by Shireen Hormozdi of Hormozdi Law Firm, LLC in Norcross, Georgia.
