FORT LAUDERDALE – A bar manager is suing over claims that she was not paid minimum wage.

Mary Betts filed a complaint on Feb. 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Division against Pompano Lanes Inc., Southern Grouts & Mortars Inc. and Ronnie Picou, citing violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and Florida Constitution.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between 2010 and 2014, she did not receive the hourly minimum wage. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to pay the minimum salary and overtime compensation as required by law.

The suit also states that Betts believes she was terminated out of retaliation for complaining to Picou about the alleged sale of drugs in the workplace.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for allegedly unpaid wages and employee benefits, reasonable attorney's fees and costs, prejudgment and post-judgment interests and any further relief considered just and appropriate. She is represented by Scott K. Hewitt and Charleen Ramus Jaffe of Mandelbaum, Fitzsimmons, Hewitt & Cain PA in Tampa.
