A vicious dog attack has led to a legal battle in Palm Beach County, Florida. Guerline Alexis filed a complaint on December 27, 2024, against Vercosa Lesli in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit. The case centers around an alleged dog bite incident that left Alexis with severe injuries.
The complaint details the events of December 6, 2023, when Alexis was walking along a sidewalk near Lesli's property at 1122 N B Street in Lake Worth Beach. According to the filing, a large black dog owned by Lesli suddenly ran across the street and attacked Alexis without provocation. The attack was described as "sudden and vicious," resulting in significant injuries to Alexis's body, including her right hip. She required immediate medical attention due to the severity of her injuries.
Alexis's lawsuit is built on two main legal claims: strict liability under Florida's Dog Bite Statute (§ 767.04) and negligence. Under the Dog Bite Statute, Alexis argues that Lesli is strictly liable for the injuries caused by her dog’s bites. Furthermore, she accuses Lesli of negligence for failing to control or restrain her dog properly. The complaint lists several breaches of duty by Lesli, including allowing her dog to escape without a leash and failing to protect pedestrians from potential attacks.
The consequences of this incident have been profound for Alexis. She claims to have suffered severe bodily injury resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, past and future medical expenses, loss of wages, and other financial burdens related to hospitalization and future care needs. These losses are claimed to be either permanent or continuing in nature.
In seeking justice through this lawsuit, Alexis demands judgment for damages exceeding $50,000 exclusive of attorney’s fees and costs against Lesli. Additionally, she requests a trial by jury on all issues triable as a matter of right.
Representing Guerline Alexis are attorneys Chad N. Horowitz and Lynda S. Brennan from Horowitz Trial Attorneys based in Boynton Beach, Florida. The case is filed under Case Number: 502024CA012213XXXAMB.
