In the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, plaintiff Paul Hickey, M.D., has filed a lawsuit against defendants Privilege Underwriters, Inc. (PURE Insurance Company) and USAA Insurance Agency, Inc. of Texas. The case number is 502024CA003844XXXAMB Div: AH and was filed on April 25, 2024.
The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Hickey suffered severe injuries due to an accident involving an underinsured motorist on March 24, 2023. As per the complaint, Dr. Hickey was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Susan DeWald, causing him to become a permanent paraplegic. Prior to the accident, Dr. Hickey had automobile insurance coverage with PURE and was in a fiduciary relationship with USAA as his insurance agent.
Dr. Hickey is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 exclusive of interest, costs and attorney’s fees for physical impairment, mental anguish and loss of capacity for enjoyment of life among other things. He alleges that PURE failed to provide him with underinsured motorist coverage for compensation due to damages caused by the accident.
