A Texas woman says she was sexually assaulted by a crew member while on a Celebrity Cruise.
The woman, identified only as Jane Doe, filed the complaint in federal court against Celebrity Cruises Inc.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff, who lives in Denton County, was attacked May 31, 2023, aboard the Celebrity Eclipse. Despite Celebrity Cruises' public commitment to safety and security for its guests and crew members, she says she was victimized because of inadequate supervision and monitoring.
The lawsuit also notes Celebrity Cruises is aware of crimes occurring on their ships, including sexual assaults. It cites a previous ruling from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals which found that cruise lines have been on notice about serious problems with sexual assaults on their vessels.
Celebrity Cruises is a Liberian corporation with its principal place of business in Miami. The company owns and operates 15 ships worldwide and is affiliated with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., which operates an additional 26 ships globally.
