David Patterson, represented by his Plenary Successor Guardian Deidre Walker, has filed a lawsuit against Florida Mentor II, LLC in the Circuit Court of the Second Judicial Circuit in Leon County, Florida. The case ID is 2024 CA 000453 and was filed on March 19, 2024. The suit alleges negligence resulting in physical, mental, and emotional neglect and abuse of Patterson while under the care of the defendant.

Patterson suffers from severe intellectual disability, bipolar disorder, anoxic brain injury and static encephalopathy requiring significant supervision and oversight. His attorney argues that Florida Mentor II failed to provide reasonable care to him since he became a resident at their Tallahassee Developmental Center facility on December 23, 2020.

The plaintiff claims that Patterson sustained injuries on January 9, 2021 requiring hospital treatment including sutures in his chin. He further alleges that Patterson was neglected and/or assaulted and/or abused on April 2, 2022.

The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $50,000 for negligence by Florida Mentor II. They argue that the defendant failed to hire, train, and supervise employees adequately to ensure they provided reasonable care to its residents like Patterson.
