A former employee says she was wrongfully dismissed from her job with the University of Florida.
Arianna Reybitz, who has autism, filed her complaint in federal court against the University of Florida Board of Trustees. She claims she was unfairly dismissed from her position as an OPS Laboratory Technician due to her disability. She says the school violated the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 .
According to the complaint, Reybitz began her employment with the university on October 24, 2022. In January 2023, she informed Lab Manager Kieran McGrail about her disability. However, she claims that after revealing her condition, she was removed from two ongoing studies and denied several reasonable accommodations such as advance weekly planning opportunities and access to have her own computer login.
In March 2023, without any prior warning or disciplinary action, Reybitz says she was terminated from her position. When questioning the reason behind this decision, she says she was told she "seemed to require more structure" than the laboratory could provide.
