MIAMI — A woman is suing Hamilton Beach alleging a pressure cooker she purchased was unsafe.
Pia Solis claims the Hamilton Beach Multi-function Pressure Cooker caused severe injuries to her, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Solis claims Hamilton Beach, through its agents and employees, designed, developed and marketed the pressure cooker, making various representations about its safety and ease of use.
Solis claims that despite following Hamilton Beach's instructions and using the pressure cooker as directed, a sudden and unexpected explosion occurred, causing severe burns and permanent injuries.
Hamilton Beach was aware of similar incidents causing personal injuries and property damage but failed to take corrective action, according to the suit.
Solis claims she was severely injured and suffered permanent scarring and disfigurement on her body.
The plaintiff was seriously injured in and about the body, and suffered bodily injury, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, physical impairment, inconvenience, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life and psychological and/or emotional distress, according to the suit. She claims she was caused to suffer great pain and anguish of body and mind and loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life.
Solis is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is represented by Michael A. Hersh of Hersh Kirtman Injury Law in Boca Raton.
