MIAMI – A Florida man has filed a negligence lawsuit against Royal Caribbean Cruises claiming his hand was severely injured by a defective locking mechanism in his cabin's door.
Mordekhay Mangel filed a lawsuit in federal court against Royal Caribbean Cruises citing allegations of negligence.
According to court documents, on August 3, 2022, Mangel was a passenger aboard Jewel of the Seas, a cruise ship owned, operated, and maintained by RCL. He claims he suffered injuries, including a partial amputation of his right ring finger, due to a defective locking mechanism on his stateroom door. The locking mechanism was allegedly defective, causing the door to suddenly and unexpectedly lock.
Mangel alleges RCL had a duty to maintain a safe environment for passengers and should have had prior knowledge of the dangerous condition of the defective locking mechanism on his stateroom door but still neglected to address it. RCL is accused of various acts of negligence, including negligent maintenance, negligent failure to correct a dangerous condition and negligent failure to warn of a hazard.
He seeks compensatory damages for pain, mental anguish, disfigurement, disability, medical expenses, anticipated future healthcare costs, court costs and other relief.
Mangel is being represented by Nicholas I. Gerson of Gerson & Schwartz in Miami.
