The Florida economy is booming and employment rates are at an all-time high. Data from the Economic Innovation Group shows that Florida had the third-highest rate of new business formations per capita in 2022. And according to Enterprise Florida, the majority of foreign-owned companies from Europe account for the largest share by far at 63 percent of all FDI employment in the Sunshine State, with the U.K. leading the pack. Yet, global and local companies – large and small – are struggling to find and retain the talents and skill sets they require. The digital, green energy and healthcare sectors are feeling the most acute labor shortages along with leisure, hospitality, agriculture, and construction. Scott Bettridge will moderate a discussion on immigration trends and challenges, current employment trends – including global mobility programs – across the U.S. and Florida. The panel will discuss strategies employers can use in their international recruitment strategy. They will also look at the recent Florida bills aiming to target the influx of illegal immigration into the state with tougher employment requirements, including some of the strongest penalties in the nation for employers, and their potential impact on companies operating in the Sunshine State or with plans to do so.
