Jessica Gopiao, a fifth-year litigation associate in Reed Smith’s Insurance Recovery Group, has been selected to receive the Rising Star Asian American Excellence in Florida award from the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA) of South Florida at the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Legal-Business Nexus statewide event.

Gopiao was one of six honorees chosen by several Asian voluntary bar associations and professional organizations across Florida.

Gopiao handles all aspects of insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, and has litigated cases through summary judgment and trial in both state and federal courts. She also guides clients through the claims process and has experience providing transactional insurance advice, conducting policy audits, and counseling clients at the policy placement or renewal stage. She is admitted to practice in Florida and California, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of Florida, Middle District of Florida, Northern District of Florida, and Central District of California.

A proponent of volunteering and advocacy both within the firm and in the community, Gopiao serves as the Miami office’s associate liaison for the Women’s Initiative Network of Reed Smith (WinRS). Additionally, in 2022, she was appointed to the board of directors for Dress for Success Miami, a not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. She was also recently elected as the 2023-2024 Treasurer for the Miami-Dade Bar Young Lawyer Section, and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for MDFAWL.

Gopiao’s recent accolades include selection as a Class X Fellow for the Florida Bar Wm. Reece Smith, Jr. Leadership Academy, a highly selective multi-session training program designed to help a diverse and inclusive group of lawyers become better leaders. She was also named among the Miami-Dade Bar Young Lawyer Section’s 40 Under 40 Outstanding Lawyers earlier this year.

Gopiao will be recognized at the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Legal-Business Nexus statewide event on May 17th. Simultaneous in-person events will be held in South Florida, Tampa Bay, and Jacksonville, and each region will be united into a single, statewide event through live-stream. The South Florida event will take place at the Broward County Bar Association Building in Fort Lauderdale.
