Former Coral Gables City Attorney Miriam Soler Ramos Joins Holland & Knight's Real Estate and Land Use Practices

Miriam Soler Ramos, a highly regarded attorney who has served in the public sector for more than two decades, has joined Holland & Knight's Miami office as a partner in the firm's real estate and land use practices. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, she was the city attorney for the City of Coral Gables for five years.

"Miriam is very well connected and respected throughout Miami, and our firm has had the privilege of working with her and her team in Coral Gables over the past several years," said Vivian de las Cuevas-Diaz, deputy section leader of Holland & Knight's Real Estate Section. "Her extensive experience in handling real estate and land use matters for the City of Coral Gables will serve as a valuable asset and strengthen both our real estate and land use practices."

As city attorney for the City of Coral Gables, Ms. Ramos served as counsel to the city commission, city officials and city departments, providing legal opinions and interpretations as well as supervising the city attorney's office and outside counsel. During her tenure, she provided advice in the areas of local government ethics, torts, administrative law, criminal law, historic preservation, property rights, land use and zoning, labor and employment, the First Amendment, Florida Sunshine Law, utilities, civil rights, code enforcement, workers' compensation, construction law, procurement, preemption, real estate, contracts, trademarks and domains.

Before joining the city, she served as deputy general counsel and deputy advocate for the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust, where she trained on the Miami-Dade Ethics Code, provided legal opinions and led prosecutions for violations of the Miami-Dade County ethics code and other ordinances. She was also an assistant state attorney in Miami-Dade County, serving in the career criminal unit as well as the domestic crimes unit.

Ms. Ramos is the immediate past president of the Cuban American Bar Association and has been a director of the organization since 2015. She also serves on the executive council of The Florida Bar's City, County and Local Government Law Section.

Ms. Ramos received a J.D. degree from University of Miami School of Law and a B.S. degree from University of Miami. She is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in City, County and Local Government Law.
