Florida Dept. of Children and Families sued for discrimination

TALLAHASSEE - Patrick Leung filed a lawsuit on Dec. 20 in Leon County Circuit Court against the Florida Department of Children and Families for gender discrimination, race discrimination and national origin discrimination.

According to the lawsuit, Leung was an employee for Defendant from 2018 until his discharge on Sept. 26, 2019. During the time of Leung's employment, he alleges having suffered discrimination due to him being of Chinese origin at the hands of a Cuban-born female co-worker. Leung alleges that the co-worker prohibited communication with him by speaking Spanish in front of him, knowing that he was unable to speak Spanish.

Leung was caused to suffer emotional distress, mental pain and suffering, past and future pecuniary losses, inconvenience, bodily injury, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, back and front pay, interest on pay, bonuses and other benefits. 

Leung seeks a judgment in favor for equitable relief, general and compensatory damages, attorney's fees and cost of suit. Leung is represented by Marie A. Mattox.
