Fired employee alleges trainee showed her porn on his phone

TAMPA – A former employee of University Community Hospital is suing the healthcare provider for monetary damages.

Oona Hastings filed the lawsuit on June 18 in Hillsborough County Circuit Court against University Community Hospital Inc., d.b.a AdventHealth Tampa for violating the Florida Civil Rights Act of 1992.

According to the complaint, Hastings, an operating room technician, had been tasked with training other coworkers in her field.

While beginning training in March 2020, a coworker is alleged to have broken surgical protocol by contaminating the room when he used his foot to hold a door open.

Upon warning superiors, Hastings was ordered to keep training the individual who then proceeded to show Hastings a pornographic video on his phone, the suit says.

Hastings included the aforementioned acts in her incident report and the subject was fired, but Hastings alleges that she was then the subject of intense scrutiny over her breaks and clocks out, as a result of writing the subject up, and was subsequently fired herself.

Hastings is seeking to keep AdventHealth from engaging in further acts of discrimination against her, along with monetary compensation regarding her firing and compensatory damages.

Gary L. Printy, Jr., with the local law firm Printy & Printy, P.A. is representing Hastings.
