TALLAHASSEE -- The father and mother of a man killed while incarcerated are suing the correctional facility for allowing their son to be attacked.

Leroy and Julie Ferrell filed a complaint on May 17 in Leon County Circuit Court against Florida Department of Corrections, Mark Inch, Milton Hicks, Centurion of Florida LLC and Does 1-5 for failure to protect, deliberate indifference, direct negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, on May 18, 2019, Larian Ferrell, the deceased, was incarcerated at Cross City Correctional Institution when he was allegedly stabbed by a fellow inmate. Ferrell's parents allege it is the fault of the correctional facility due to it being understaffed at the time of the incident.

Ferrell's parents allege that at the time of the incident, prison employees lacked training in safety and security protocol, security checks were not performed in a timely manner and medical staff failed to respond to an emergency - leaving lifesaving protocols not to be performed in a timely manner.

The Ferrells seek compensation for injury, pain and suffering, punitive damages, attorney's fees and costs of suit. The Ferrells are represented by Amber N. Hall of Amber Hall Law PLLC.
