ORLANDO — A woman claims to have suffered painful injury and scarring after a laser hair removal procedure done by an unlicensed professional.
Kanesha McKinney filed a complaint on May 13 in Orange County Circuit Court against Reflections Dermatology and Center for Skin Care for negligence, lack of informed consent and vicarious liability.
According to the complaint, on September 10, 2020, McKinney went to Reflections for her routine hair removal which was performed by Lindsay Thommes.
Thommes had performed multiple laser hair removals on McKinney from May 15, 2019, until September 10, 2020. During the last procedure, Thommes allegedly informed McKinney of a new device the office had for hair removal and that that equipment would be used on McKinney.
McKinney alleged that Thommes "appeared to not be familiar with the device" and adjusted the settings on the laser, causing McKinney to feel intense pain. McKinney allegedly informed Tommes of the pain and notified Reflections immediately after the procedure.
McKinney returned an hour later to Reflections stating the pain was intensifying, and Thommes said "she would heal eventually," the complaint states. McKinney alleges that several weeks later, she had not seen any improvement in her condition and learned that Thommes was not licensed to practice with the machine.
McKinney alleges to have suffered "pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of capacity to enjoy life, medical care, and treatment."
McKinney seeks general damages. McKinney is represented by Louiza Tarassova.
