Bradley Arant Boult Cummings issued the following announcement on June 3.

Bradley is pleased to announce that Marc James Ayers, a partner in the firm’s Birmingham office, has been certified in appellate practice by the Florida Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization and Education (BLSE).

Mr. Ayers, who is licensed to practice in Alabama and Florida, is one of approximately 200 of Florida’s more than 100,000 attorneys to be board certified in appellate practice. Through the work of its certification committees, the BLSE is charged with identifying for the general public and the profession those attorneys who have substantial experience and have demonstrated special knowledge, skills and proficiency in certified areas of practice, as well as a reputation for professionalism and ethics in the practice of law.

“We congratulate Marc on earning board certification in appellate practice in Florida,” said Bradley Birmingham Office Managing Partner Dawn Helms Sharff. “This outstanding achievement for Marc among an exclusive group of attorneys is representative of his significant knowledge, successes, and leadership as a member of Bradley’s team of highly experienced appellate attorneys.”

Mr. Ayers is a member of Bradley’s Appellate Practice Group, whose attorneys include four former U.S. Supreme Court clerks and numerous former clerks to judges on federal and state appellate and trial courts. Past appellate achievements for Bradley’s lawyers include significant victories for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, automakers, financial services institutions, and many clients in high-demand, large-scale, complex actions.

Mr. Ayers is listed in both The Best Lawyers in America® and Mid-South Super Lawyers in the field of Appellate Law, and represents individual, corporate and governmental clients before state and federal appellate and trial courts throughout the country. He has also represented clients on petitions for certiorari and amicus curiae briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, Mr. Ayers has presented oral argument in the Fourth, Eighth, Ninth, Eleventh, and D.C. Circuits, and in various state appellate courts in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, New York, and Maryland.

Mr. Ayers was nominated by the justices of the Alabama Supreme Court to serve on the Alabama Pattern Jury Instructions Committee. He also is a member of the Amicus Curiae Committee of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and serves as general counsel to the Alabama Senate Republican Caucus. He previously served as chair of the Appellate Practice Section of the Alabama State Bar. In addition, Mr. Ayers frequently lectures on and has authored several articles about appellate practice, among other topics, and his work on statutory interpretation was cited as one of the most pertinent sources that influenced Justice Antonin Scalia and Bryan Garner in their treatise Reading Law: The Interpretation of Legal Texts.
