TALLAHASSEE — Fort Myers attorney Nicole Leigh Naumann has been indefinitely suspended and Orlando attorney Lora S. Scott has been reprimanded in separate Supreme Court orders, according to a recent announcement by the Florida Bar.
The state bar announced of the disciplines and the Supreme Court's orders on Jan. 31.
Naumann was suspended following a Dec. 10 Supreme Court order over allegations she failed to produce trust account records in an official investigation.
"Naumann was found in contempt for failing to comply with a subpoena to produce trust account records," the state bar's announcement said.
Naumann was admitted to the bar in Florida on Oct. 29, 2010, according to her profile at the state bar website. No prior discipline before the state bar is listed on Naumann's state bar profile.
In an unrelated order issued Dec. 20, the state Supreme Court approved the uncontested referee's report filed in the proceeding against Scott before publicly reprimanding her and ordering her to pay $2,000 in restitution to her client and almost $1,964 in costs. The court also ordered Scott to attend the state bar's ethics school.
"Scott failed to diligently handle her client’s criminal appeal," the state bar said in its announcement. "She also failed to adequately communicate with her client regarding the status of the matter, despite repeated requests."
Scott admitted "there have been findings or probable cause by the grievance committee, " the consent judgment filed with the court said. The consent judgment also includes Scott's conditional guilty plea.
Scott also admitted she did not diligently handle her client's appellate matter, filed a brief without review and discussion with the client and failed to keep the client and his family informed about the case.
Scott was admitted to the bar in Florida on April 20, 2006, according to her profile at the state bar website. No prior discipline before the state bar is listed on Naumann's state bar profile.
Florida court orders are not final until time to file a rehearing motion expires. Filing such a motion does not alter the effective date of Naumann's suspension or Scott's reprimand.
