ORLANDO — A Sumter County shopper is suing a Mount Dora convenience store owner, alleging negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Teresa E. Godwin filed a complaint Dec. 20 in Orange County Circuit Court against Maitland Avenue Inc., alleging the convenience store owner failed to exercise reasonable care for the safety of its invitees.

According to the complaint, on May 1, 2017, Godwin was shopping at the defendant's convenience store in Mount Dora when she tripped and fell on the landscaping edging overextending on the walkway. Godwin says she sustained bodily injuries.

The plaintiff alleges Maitland Avenue failed to maintain its store premises in a reasonably safe condition by allowing the flower bed edging to overextend into the designated pedestrian walkway.

Godwin seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, plus interest and court costs. She is represented by attorney Alberto H. Oliveri of Morgan & Morgan PA in Ocala.
