ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing a licensed insurer, alleging breach of an insurance policy.

Maria Gavria filed a complaint Dec. 20 in Orange County Circuit Court against People's Trust Insurance Company, alleging failure to cover damages from a hurricane.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, while the People's Trust insurance policy issued was in full force and effect, Gavria's insured property at 5435 Timberchase Court, Orlando, sustained a covered loss due to Hurricane Irma. The suit says as a result of the defendant's breaches, Gavria has suffered and continues to suffer monetary damages.

The plaintiff alleges People's Trust has denied coverage for her loss on the basis that it was not covered by the policy.

Gavria seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Anthony M. Lopez of Marin, Eljaiek, Lopez & Martinez PL in Coconut Grove.
