Pinellas County blood donor alleges negligence caused injuries

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing a blood donation business, alleging negligence caused injuries to the plaintiff.

Heidi Fanning filed a complaint Nov. 14 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against OneBlood Inc., alleging failure to maintain professional standards of care and treatment.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 21, 2016, Fanning was donating blood to OneBlood through a mobile collection service called "The Big Red Bus." The suit says Fanning suffered bodily injuries, resulting in pain and suffering, inconvenience, disfigurement mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment and aggravation of a previous existing condition.

Manning alleges the OneBlood staff failed to render proper care, treatment and services. The suit says the defendant deviated from the level of care and skill by drawing blood from an improper location and angle of insertion, and failed to discontinue the blood donation or promptly remove the needle after Fanning reported feelings of pain, numbness and weakness.

Fanning seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, costs of action, and all further relief just relief. She is represented by attorney Frank J. Currie of Teresa P. Williams PA in Clearwater.
