CLEARWATER — A New York resident is suing St. Petersburg, alleging negligence in the maintenance of a public sidewalk.

Jeanne Reed filed a complaint Nov. 14 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against the city of St. Petersburg, alleging the city failed to exercise reasonable care in inspecting and maintaining the sidewalk for the safety of the public.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 7, 2017, Reed was walking along a sidewalk near Spa Beach in St. Petersburg when she tripped and fell, sustaining physical injuries. Reed says she was unaware of the danger as there were no warning sign that the sidewalk had cracks.

The plaintiff alleges St. Petersburg failed to maintain the sidewalk by allowing it to be cracked and to remain in a dangerous condition and failed to warn or adequately warn the public of the danger of the cracks.

Reed seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus interest, costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Michael C. Bird of Morgan & Morgan Tampa PA.
