Orlando property owner alleges insurance company failed to cover water damage

ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing a licensed insurer, alleging breach of an insurance policy.

Luz Almonte filed a complaint Oct. 24 in Orange County Circuit Court against Southern Fidelity Insurance Company, alleging failure acknowledge full payment for the plaintiff's loss.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 16, 2017, Almonte's property at 8002 Bracotel Court, Orlando suffered a physical loss due to water discharge in the kitchen. At the time of the loss, the suit says, the Southern Fidelity insurance policy was in full force and effect, for which Almonte provided the defendant with a damage estimate for a covered loss. 

The plaintiff alleges Southern Fidelity Insurance has rejected paying for the total amount of damages.

Almonte seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, exclusive of interest, attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attonreys Hunter Patterson, Alicia Perez and Michael Patrick of Strems Law Firm in Orlando.
