ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing a licensed insurer, alleging breach of an insurance policy.

Kathleen Furlong filed a complaint Oct. 17 in Orange County Circuit Court against Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Company, alleging failure to make payments pursuant to the terms of the policy.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 11, 2017, Furlong's property at 3101 Winfield St., Orlando, sustained wind and water damage as a result of Hurricane Irma. Subsequently, she says she made a claim for her losses under the policy provided by the defendant.

The plaintiff alleges Universal Property and Casualty Insurance has denied to pay her claim for damages.

Furlong seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney David R. Heil of Winter Park.
