ORLANDO — An Orlando residential property owner is suing a licensed insurer, alleging breach of an insurance contract.

Gladel Brutus filed a complaint Oct. 4 in Orange County Circuit Court against University Property & Casualty Insurance Company, alleging failure to fully pay a covered claim.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, Brutus' property at 1831 Bramblewood Drive, Orlando, sustained a loss as the result of Hurricane Irma. The suit says damages to the property were covered by the Universal Property insurance policy, for which Brutus requested benefits.

The plaintiff alleges University Property & Casualty Insurance has failed to adequately indemnify Brutus for her loss.

Brutus seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Jerrod M. Paul of The Law Offices of Jerrod Paul PA in Orlando.
