Clearwater property owner alleges insurance company failed to cover hurricane damage

CLEARWATER — A Clearwater property owner is suing a licensed insurer, alleging breach of an insurance contract regarding hurricane damage.

Julia Crouther filed a complaint Sept. 20 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, alleging failure to pay the plaintiff’s full loss according to the terms of the contract.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 11, 2017, Crouther's insured dwelling at 1601 Linwood Drive, Clearwater, sustained damage as a result of Hurricane Irma. At the time of the loss, the suit says, her property was insured by Citizens Property. 

The plaintiff alleges Citizens Property Insurance has refused to pay the full amount of her losses.

Crouther seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Sarah K. HibbaId of Morgan & Morgan Tampa,PA in Tampa.
