Driver alleges another motorist's left-hand turn caused collision

ORLANDO — An Orange County motorist is suing another driver, alleging negligent driving caused a collision that injured the plaintiff.

Tonya Matthews filed a complaint Sept. 17 in Orange County Circuit Court against Regatte Beaucejour alleging the defendant failed to act reasonably and to use due care while driving.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 1, Matthews was driving southbound on Texas Avenue in Orlando when her vehicle was struck on the left front side by Beaucejour vehicle. The suit says Beaucejour was traveling westbound on Honour Road, approaching the stop sign at the intersection of Texas Avenue when she made a left turn, colliding with the plaintiff's vehicle. 

The lawsuit states Matthews sustained injuries, pain and suffering, mental anguish, disability, disfigurement and loss of capacity to enjoy life.

The plaintiff alleges Beaucejour failed to pay proper attention to the roadway and traffic, failed to maintain a proper lookout and failed to obey the laws and rules of the state of Florida.

Matthews seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages of more than $15,000, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of suit, expert costs, and all further relief proper relief. She is represented by attorney Ortavia D. Simon of Simon Law Group, in Windermere.
