St. Petersburg couple alleges insurance company refused to provide coverage for hurricane damage

CLEARWATER — A St. Petersburg couple is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Agnes Baker and Otis Baker filed a complaint Sept. 14 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Anchor Property & Casualty Insurance Company, alleging the defendant breached of insurance contract by failing provide insurance coverage after a hurricane.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, The Bakers' property at 400 Lake Maggiore South, St. Petersburg, sustained damage as a result of Hurricane Irma. The Bakers allege the damage is covered under their Anchor Property insurance policy from and that they have complied with all conditions precedent to entitle them to recover under the policy. 

However, the suit says, the plaintiffs did not receive any coverage in order to recover from their losses. 

The plaintiffs allege Anchor Property & Casualty Insurance have refused to pay for all of the Bakers' losses.

The Bakers seek trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, interest on any overdue payments, attorney fees and court costs. They are represented by attorney Sarah K. Hibbard of Morgan & Morgan Tampa, PA in Tampa.
