Customer blames Publix for fall in St. Petersburg store

CLEARWATER — A customer is suing Publix Super Markets, alleging negligence caused her to fall and suffer injuries.

Judith Marie Gorman filed a complaint Sept. 6 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Publix Super Markets Inc., alleging the retail store failed to use due care to maintain its premises in a safe condition.

According to the complaint, on June 2, Gorman was shopping on Publix property, 5295 34th St. S., St. Petersburg, Florida, when she slipped on the wet and slippery floor. The suit says Gorman sustained injuries in and about her body, suffered from pain, physical handicap, mental anguish, incurred medical expenses, impairing her working abilities as a result. 

The plaintiff alelges Publix Super Markets failed to keep the floor free from dangerous transitory substances, and failed to warn Gorman of the dangerous condition in the property.

Gorman seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, interest, court costs and further just and proper relief. She is represented by attorney Patrick W. Harland Jr. of The Law Firm of Patrick W. Harland Jr. LLC in St. Petersburg.
