ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.
Phuong Kim Thi Van filed a complaint Sept. 4 in Orange County Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, alleging the defendant refused to provide coverage claim for property damage caused by a hurricane.
According to the complaint, Sept. 9, 2017, Van insured property at 4719 Willamette Circle, Orlando, was damaged as a result of Hurricane Irma. Van alleges he requested that Security First pay him for his damages but the defendant has refused to pay, despite Van having a full force and effect insurance policy.
The plaintiff alleges Security First Insurance has failed or refused to provide coverage under the policy, has failed to pay promptly the amounts due and has, thereby, breached the contract of insurance.
Van seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, prejudgment interest, costs of action, attorney fees and all other appropriate relief. He is represented by attorneys Andrew P. McDonald and David D. Barnhill of McDonald & Barnhill PA in Tampa.
