FORT LAUDERDALE — A Margate property owner is suing an insurance company, alleging refusal to apply payments for hurricane damages.

Sheik Deen filed a complaint July 30 in Broward County Circuit Court against Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, alleging failure to provide coverage for a covered loss under the insurance policy.

According to the complaint, Sept. 10, 2017, Deen's property at 6279 Island Way, Margate, was damaged due to hurricane Irma while the insurance policy was in full force and effect. Deen says he made timely notice of the loss, and Citizens Property acknowledged the claim and inspected the property.

However, the suit says, Citizens Property has failed to pay the full coverage of insurance proceeds, which resulted in further monetary damages to Deen.

The plaintiff alleges Citizens Property Insurance has failed to provide full coverage for the property's covered loss under the policy.

Deen seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs, attorney fees and all other just and proper relief. He is represented by attorney Max M. Messinger of Kanner & Pintaluga PA in Boca Raton.
