CLEARWATER — A St. Petersburg mother is suing a public school district, alleging negligence in protecting students from sexual assault.
Thelma Bray, as parent and natural guardian of T.W., a minor, and Thelma Bray, individually filed a complaint July 30 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Pinellas County Schools, alleging failure to safely transport students from the school bus stop to the school.
According to the complaint, on Oct. 27, 2016, Bray's minor daughter, T.W, was riding a Pinellas County Schools bus when she experienced inappropriate sexual activity from the defendant's employee, Dondre Davis.
On Oct. 28, 2016, the suit says, Davis admitted to having inappropriate sexual activity with T.W. after a fellow student reported the incident to Lealman Intermediate School. As a result, the suit says, T.W. suffered serious physical injuries, mental and emotional injuries.
The plaintiff alleges Pinellas County Schools failed to take reasonable steps to protect her daughter from becoming the victim of the inappropriate and sexual activity she experienced while riding a school bus as a school student.
Thelma Bray seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, including costs, interest and all other just and equitable relief. She is represented by attorneys Steven A. Kronick of Kronick Law Firm in Windermere, and by Camille R. Martin of DeLand.
