Orlando couple alleges State Farm refused to cover hurricane damage

ORLANDO — Two Orlando residents are suing State Farm, alleging breach of an insurance contract.

Alphonso Slaughter and Cynthia Slaughter filed a complaint July 25 in Orange County Circuit Court against State Farm Florida Insurance Company, alleging failure to pay amounts due under the policy for hurricane damage.

According to the complaint on Sept. 11, 2017, the Slaughters' property at 225 Murry Drive, Orlando  sustained a covered loss as a result of Hurricane Irma. The plaintiffs say they timely notified State Farm Florida of the loss and have performed all conditions precedent to entitle them to coverage and benefits under the policy. 

The plaintiffs allege State Farm Florida Insurance, despite demand for payment, has failed and refuses to pay the benefits necessary to repair the Slaughters' home and/or repair or replace the damaged contents.

The Slaughters seek trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs, attorney fees and all such other just and appropriate relief. They are represented by by attorney Courtnie K. Harris of C. Harris Law Firm PA in Orlando.
