Lake Placid property owners claim Universal Property and Casualty refused to pay for Irma damage

Lawsuits

FORT LAUDERDALE — Lake Placid property owners are suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Diane Diamond and Roland Dezentje filed a complaint July 12 in the Broward County Circuit Court against Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Company alleging that the defendant breached an insurance contract agreement by failing to reimburse them for the damages sustained to their property.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, the plaintiffs' property at 434 Anderson St. North East sustained damages as a direct result of Hurricane Irma's winds and rain. The plaintiffs timely notified the defendant of the existence of the claim, but the insurance company allegedly only offered to pay an inadequate amount of damages.

The plaintiffs hold Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Company responsible because the defendant allegedly denied coverage, or improperly attempted to limit the recovery by the plaintiffs by not compensating for the full amount of the damages.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek a judgment for damages, costs, attorneys' fees, and any other relief the court deems just and appropriate. They are represented by Larry Moskowitz of Larry Moskowitz, PA in Fort Lauderdale.
