ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing an insurer, alleging refusal to apply payments for damages due to a hurricane.

Ileana Torres filed a complaint June 22 in Orange County Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, alleging failure to pay for a covered loss.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, Torres' property at 4107 Monarch Drive, Orlando, suffered wind and water damages due to hurricane Irma while the insurance policy was in full force and effect. The suit says all premiums were paid and the claim was acknowledged by the insurance company.

However, Security First has allegedly failed and refused to pay for the covered loss. As a result, Torres, says she has suffered and will continue to suffer due to her property's damages.

The plaintiff alleges Security First Insurance has failed and continues to fail to fully compensate for the property's covered loss.

Torres seeks trial by jury, declaratory relief, damages in excess of $15,000, exclusive of interest, costs, attorney fees and all just and proper relief. She is represented by attorney Alexandra Ramon of Ramon, Rodriguez, Blanco-Herrera LLP in Miami.
