Patient accuses medical care providers of professional negligence

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County patient is suing medical care providers, alleging professional negligence during surgery.

William Kirkpatrick filed a complaint June 15 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Dr. Jill H. Roehr and Diagnostic Clinic Medical Group Inc., alleging they failed to provide medical care in accordance with prevailing professional standards.

According to the complaint, ton June 10, 2016, Roehr conducted a herniorrhaphy surgery procedure to Kirkpatrick's left inguinal hernia. As result of of the defendants' negligence, the suit says, Kirkpatrick's sigmoid colon was perforated, causing him to suffer extreme pain, emotional distress, psychological trauma, lost income, disfigurement and medical expenses. 

The plaintiff alleges Roehr failed to properly inspect his colon, failed to observe the perforation she made and failed to take appropriate steps to provide any post-surgical care.

Kirkpatrick seeks trial by jury, damages against each defendant in excess of $15,000, plus costs of court and pre-judgment interest. He is represented by attorneys Aubrey O. Dicus Jr. and Jonathon W. Douglas of Battaglia, Ross, Dicus & McQuaid PA in St. Petersburg.
