Lake County couple accuses health care providers of negligence in penile implant

ORLANDO — A Lake County couple is suing Maitland health care providers, alleging negligence in the placement of a penile implant.

Ronald Hogans and Lynda Hogans filed a complaint June 11 in Orange County Circuit Court against Dr. Jeffrey Brady, Mary Mathe and Florida Hospital Medical Group Inc.. doing business as Florida Urology Associates in Matiland, alleging failure to render medical care in accordance with accepted standards of care.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 25, 2016, Ronald Hogans had an inflatable penile implant (IPP) placed by Brady. As a result of the defendants' negligence, the suit says, Hogans' IPP became necrotic and his condition significantly deteriorated.

Hogans says he has suffered permanent injuries and disabilities, including loss of penile sensation. The plaintiffs allege the defendants negligently ignored Ronald Hogans’ continued complaints of pain, failed to act in an emergency fashion and failed to recognize an infected and/or necrotic condition before it became irreversible.

Ronald and Lynda Hogans seek trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus court costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and attorney fees. They are represented by attorneys John Elliott Leighton and Max Panoff of Leighton Law PA in Miami.
