ORLANDO — A guardian is suing an Orange County dog owner, alleging negligence and strict liability in an attack on her child.

Karla Rentas filed a complaint May 30 in Orange County Circuit Court against Levy Conroy, alleging that the dog owner failed to follow applicable safety guidelines and regulations.

According to the complaint, on March 7, 2017, Rentas' minor child was bitten in the face by Conroy's dog while in the playground of Lake Jasmine Apartments. The suit says the child sustained bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of capacity for enjoyment of life and medical treatment.

The plaintiff alleges Conroy failed to secure the dog in a public area, and failed to properly supervise the dog.

Rentas seeks trial by jury, judgment for damages against Conroy, plus costs of action, and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney Colleen Tuohy-Fleming of Dan Newlin and Partners in Orlando.
