CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County couple is suing  health care practitioners, alleging loss of consortium, negligence, and vicarious liability.

April and Arthur Nelson filed a complaint May 22 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Suncoast Center Inc. and advanced registered nurse Aaron Brooks, alleging failure to provide services that met professional standards of quality.

According to the complaint, in September 2013, Arthur Nelson was seen at Suncoast for a possible stroke. The suit says the defendants failed to warn Nelson of the side effects of the anti-depressant drugs and failed to properly monitor the plaintiff for signs and symptoms of tardive dyskinesia.

The suit says Arthur Nelson sustained bodily injuries and resulting pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, medical expenses, loss of earnings, and/or aggravation of a previously existing condition. The lawsuit adds that April Nelson was deprived of her husband's society, companionship, assistance and services.

The Nelsons seek trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000,  including court costs and pre-judgment interest on paid medical bills. They are represented by attorney Scott M. Whitley of Morgan & Morgan in St. Petersburg.
