Customer blames department store operator for finger injury

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing a department store operator, alleging negligence led to a serious finger injury.

Monserrate Torres filed a complaint on May 22, in the Pinellas Circuit Court against Ross Dress for Less Inc. alleging failure to keep the properties in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 13, 2017, Torres was shopping for shoes at Ross Dress for Less in Largo. The suit says se was injured when her finger was pierced by a metal prong from the security tag of a shoe. 

Torres says she has suffered great pain and mental anguish and incurred medical expenses. The plaintiff alleges Ross Dress for Less negligently allowed the metal prong to protrude for the shoes in its custody and failed to warn customers of the dangerous condition.

Torres seeks trial by jury, monetary damages of more than $15,000, plus costs and all such other just and appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney David A. Papa of Papa & Gipe PA in Clearwater.
