CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County man is suing Wal-Mart, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries from a collapsed shelf.

Harold Lownie filed a complaint May 16 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores East LP, alleging the department store failed to exercise reasonable care in maintaining safe conditions.

According to the complaint, on July 19, 2017, Lownie was shopping at Wal-Mart, 10237 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg. The suit says a shelf collapsed on Lownie, causing him severe bodily injuries, pain, humiliation and substantial medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Wal-Mart Stores East breached its duties to maintain reasonably safe conditions for customers and visitors.

Lownie seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, exclusive of interest, costs, attorney fees and all just and proper relief. He is represented by attorneys Paul S. Reed and Ryan J. Reed of Paul S. Reed PLLC in Brandon.
